Gum disease is the second most common oral cavity disease after dental caries. Gum disease can generally be categorised into two types: gingivitis, i.e. inflammation of the gums; and periodontitis, i.e. inflammation that damages the bottom structure of a tooth.
The treatments for gum disease are complex and long-term. Good cooperation between the patient and the doctor is important during these treatments, as well as keeping an eye on the long-term effects and maintaining regular check-ups in order to put a stop to any further developments and prevent the loss of teeth.
At our clinic, the initial consultation for a gum treatment will include all the necessary checks to map the patient’s gum condition. During the consultation, our dentists will explain the causes of gum disease, the nature of the treatment, and will give the patient instruction to keep the disease under control.
